Guided walking tour

All registered participants, along with their accompanying persons, are kindly invited to enjoy the old city of Krakow during the guided walking tour on Main Market and its surroundings. The tour will start at the symposium venue at 6:30 PM on Monday, May 7th.

Welcome reception

All registered participants, along with their accompanying persons, are kindly invited to the Welcome reception on Monday 8 PM, May 7th in Rynek Underground exhibition.

Symposium dinner

The symposium dinner is scheduled to Tuesday, May 8th and will take place in the salt mine Wieliczka, 125 m underground. The salt mine Wieliczka, with its over 700 years history and astonishing interiors is one of the most important objects of the World's Cultural Heritage by UNESCO. A visit to the mine's undergrounds and a sightseeing tour will precede the dinner. Organizers of PCS 2012 provide transportation to the dinner and back (the distance is about 13 km from the city centre).

Important information

The sightseeing tour through Wieliczka mines takes 1 hour and requires going down 800 steps. The tour ends up in the chamber where the symposium dinner will take place ("Warsaw" chamber).

Once the dinner is finished, the lift will take all the dinner participants back from the mines.

For participants who have problems with walking, a special tour will be prepared. The tour is suitable for wheelchairs and walking canes. If you wish to take this special tour, please contact the PCS 2012 office in advance.

The temperature in the mines is between 14 and 18 Celsius (57 to 64 Fahrenheit). Please put on adequate clothes. It refers also to the dinner chamber.

The dinner menu includes meat. If you are a vegetarian and prefer fish, please inform us about it in advance on office@pcs2012.org.

For people who suffer from claustrophobia visit to salt mines and participation in the symposium dinner can be a difficult experience. Please consider it deeply.


We also would like to remind you that student registration does not include the visit to the mines and the symposium dinner. It is possible to buy a ticket to the dinner (on the first day of PCS 2012 the latest) . The cost is 320 PLN per ticket. Booking in advance is strongly recommended - in this case please write to office@pcs2012.org.
